South High Valedictorian Lillian Lin
South High Valedictorian Lillian Lin is a National Merit Scholarship Winner, an AP Scholar, and a National Latin Exam Gold Medalist. She served as president of DECA, vice president of Academic Outreach, and a member of the school’s Wharton Global High School Investment team.
A four-year member of the school’s DECA team, Lillian won several awards at local, regional, and national DECA business competitions. In 2022, she won first place for the North Atlantic Region in the DECA Virtual Business Challenge, as well as first place in New York and fifth place internationally for her strategic proposal for a small business post-COVID recovery plan. The following year, in 2023, she again placed first in the state and top 20 internationally for a strategic proposal to improve customer service at a local bank. During her high school career, Lillian put her business and marketing skills to use as an intern with the Great Neck Plaza Business Improvement District, Hofstra University, and a PBA campaign. Lillian will attend NYU Stern School of Business.
South High Salutatorian Kira Nguyen
South High Salutatorian Kira Nguyen is a National Merit Scholarship Finalist, an AP Scholar with Distinction, and a National Latin Exam Gold Medalist. She served as Science Olympiad president and was a four-year member of the team, which won the regional championship and advanced to the States all four years, making appearances at the national competition twice; president of the Pre-Med Club, winning several awards at Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) conferences; president of the Students Putting an End to Cancer (SPEC) club; and president of Academic Outreach. She was a two-year intern at the Feinstein Research Institute, where she conducted research that she presented at a world conference on lung cancer in Singapore.
Kira was also a varsity athlete, serving as captain of the Long Island Champions South High Girls Varsity Fencing Team. She was a starter and anchor all four years of her high school career, earning recognition as a Newsday Top 10 Fencer and a member of the Newsday All-Long Island Fencing Team. Kira competes in epee fencing outside of school and has been ranked regionally and nationally by the USA Fencing Top Rankings. Kira will attend Brown University.
