South High School Student Named Regeneron STS Scholar

South High School senior Arnav Pemmaraju has been named a Regeneron Science Talent Search (STS) Scholar, one of the nation’s most prestigious science research competitions. Arnav is among just 300 Scholars selected nationwide from an applicant pool of nearly 2,600 students.

Arnav’s research project, titled
“CRE-LogicSim: A Surrogate Modeling Framework for Interpreting Cis-Regulatory Element Function in DeepSequence Models,”
demonstrates advanced work in computational biology and machine learning.

Maxwell Tse Named Newsday Top 15 Boys Fencer
Maxwell Tse Named Newsday Top 15 Boys Fencer

Congratulations to South High sophomore Maxwell Tse, who has been named one of Newsday's Top 15 Boys Fencers for 2025-26! Max is currently undefeated with a 14-0 record, and he won the Brentwood Holiday Classic tournament featuring the top high school fencers across Long Island.

Max is ranked 31st in the country. He and Co-captain Amir Karimov look to lead the undefeated top-ranked Rebels to the Nassau County Finals and another Long Island championship this season!

Kindness Day at South High School

South High School's Student Government celebrated World Kindness Day on November 13. As part of the school's No Place for Hate initiative, the Student Government organized activities for students and staff to showcase their kindness, unity and school spirit.

South High School is pleased to announce that twenty-three students have been named Semifinalists in the prestigious 2026 National Merit Scholarship Competition (NMSC). These South High School seniors are recognized for their "exceptional academic ability and potential for success in rigorous college studies."
